1. Determine the IP address of the router.

  • To access the menu, use the Windows Key + X keyboard shortcut.
  • From the menu, choose Network Connections.
  • A window labelled Network & Internet will now appear. Click on Proprieties under your connection.
  • Then go all the way down to the section on Proprieties.
  • Locate and remember the IPv4 DNS server’s IP address.

To upgrade the firmware on your router, you must first get access to it. To do this, you must type a particular URL into your browser.

The instruction booklet for the majority of routers will provide this URL along with the login information. You may also manually locate this location by following the methods above.

2. In general, how to access and upgrade a router

  1. Connect the Ethernet wire to your router.
  2. It is strongly advised that you establish a solid connection with your router to prevent any harm from occurring during the upgrade process.
  3. Navigate to your web browser.
  4. Enter the IP address of your router in the address bar, as shown below.

  16. After downloading a router update, extract it to your Desktop or another convenient location on your computer.
  17. A Browse or Choose File option should be accessible in your router’s Update section.
  18. Click the button and go to your PC’s file system to find the router update file.
  19. Double-click the file to select it.
  20. Begin the upgrading procedure after selecting the update file.
  21. Allow the procedure to complete.
  22. Remember that the update process may take a few minutes, so be patient and refrain from interfering.
  23. Interrupting the update process may permanently harm your router, so proceed with care.
  24. After the update is complete, your router will reboot, and the new firmware will be installed.

We must note that the firmware upgrade procedure may sometimes fail, in which case you will need to restart your router. To do so, go into your router’s web interface and navigate to the Factory Defaults area.

Restore the router by clicking the Restore button and waiting for it to reset. If you cannot access your router, you may also reset it by pressing and holding the router’s Reset button.

This button is often placed on the rear and requires just a ten- or more-second push and hold. Following the reset of your router, you’ll need to reconfigure your settings and wireless networks.

3. Firmware update for a Netgear router

  1. Navigate to https://www.routerlogin.net in your web browser.
  2. Assign the username admin and the password.
  3. Once you’ve accessed your router’s configuration page, go to ADVANCED > Administration.
  4. Select the Firmware or Router Update option.
  5. Click the Validate button. The router will now do an update check. If there are any available updates, you will be prompted to download them.
  6. To download and install the updates, click the Yes button. Ascertain that no interruptions to the upgrading process occur. Close your browser, do not open any sites and refrain from engaging in any Internet-related activities.
  7. Please be patient as the updating process may take up to 5 minutes.
  8. Your router will restart after the upgrade procedure is complete.

4. Firmware update for a Linksys router

  6. Click the Upgrade Now button.
  7. A progress bar will now display. Allow the procedure to run its course without interfering.

5. Firmware update for a D-Link router

  1. From D-support Link’s website, you may get the latest firmware update for your router.
  2. After downloading the file, unzip it and store it in a convenient place.
  3. In the address bar of your web browser, type 192.168.1.1.
  4. When prompted for a username and password, enter admin as the username and password.
  5. After logging in, go to the Tools page and click the Update Gateway button.
  6. Select the Browse option and go to the location of the update file from Step 2.

  8. Now, click the Gateway Update button.

5. Firmware update for a TP-Link router

  1. Visit TP-website Link’s and go to the Support area to locate your model. Ascertain that you are using the proper hardware version and model.
